Roger Williams (RI) Helps During Thanksgiving

Dec 20, 2016 – Nu Sigma participated in the university's annual turkey basket contest to raise funds and collect items for underprivileged families to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving.

The annual turkey basket content requires each basket needed to contain a $20+ gift card for purchasing a turkey as well as nonperishable items, such as mashed potato mix and canned vegetables. The university also awards prizes for most creative basket and most donated items.

According to VPCS Ashley Lamontagne, "At first we did not think to enter the baskets for judging, but the thought to decorate them was a way to bring brothers together and for the Fraternity to represent itself on campus." The chapter originally intended on making one basket, however they ended up collecting hundreds of nonperishable goods and $75 to buy turkeys that they were able to make three!

After their weekly meeting, 20 members helped with the construction of the baskets. "The chapter counted up the supplies, divided them equally and then began constructing baskets," said Lamontagne. The chapter won a $75 restaurant gift card for donating the highest quantity which they plan to use for a social event at the end of the semester.
