Ohio State Hosts Inter-Chapter Professional Event

Mar 30, 2015 – Nu Chapter event held prior to LEAD in Columbus led brothers to meet and network with various senior level managers.

Integrate is an event held by Nu Chapter that allows brothers to hear from senior level managers and make connections. The idea was spurred three years ago when brothers noticed that most of their interactions with companies were limited to recruiters. Brothers believed Integrate would help them gain valuable insight into the business world that most college students do not normally get the opportunity to receive. The former Vice President of Professional Activities Sam O'Brien supported the idea, and thought a Ted-talk-style event would be the best format for making the most of the large number of topics that were covered. The first event was a success, but there was room for improvement.

This year, Nu Chapter's top priority was hosting high quality speakers over quantity. While reducing the number of speakers, the committee utilized personal connections to make sure that the speakers were experienced and engaging.

The Integrate packet outlined the different topics that would be beneficial for college students, and a general overview of the event. The speakers included managers from Worthington Industries and Nestle; a professor from The Ohio State University Office of Diversity and Inclusion; and the keynote speaker, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Throughout the process of recruiting speakers for the event, the committee also worked on planning the logistics of the event. The chapter secured grants for drinks and hors d'oeuvres, and used allocated funds to buy t-shirts for attendees. Planning this event was a true team effort.

This year's Integrate was split into four sessions. Attendees chose 2 of 3 topics to hear more about for their first two breakout sessions. This was followed by the "Networking Hour", where everyone was able to socialize over drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The night concluded with the  keynote presentation and a Q&A session.

Since the Northeastern LEAD Provincial Conference was in Columbus during the same weekend, brothers from Bowling Green State and Cincinnati attended. Integrate has given brothers a unique look into the business world, and has helped them develop professionally. Being able to participate in this event with brothers from other chapters, and getting their point of views made it an even bigger success. Nu Chapter plans to keep improving Integrate to attract large companies and more students around campus. Hopefully, Integrate will become a headline event at The Ohio State University.
