Cornell (NY) Learns to Work on Wall Street

May 01, 2017 – Omicron Rho welcomed J.P. Morgan, Evercore Partners and Bank of America Merrill Lynch professionals for its Work on Wall Street event.

Work on Wall Street began two years ago, when brothers realized the need to demystify the finance industry, as well as to market Delta Sigma Pi. According to VPPA Julia Wu, "We identified a need in the market for a conference that allowed students to hear from real professionals, network and ask probing questions that they may not get the opportunity to do during firm wide networking sessions."

The three main purposes of the event are to consolidate all popular recruiting firms on campus into one conference so students can easily compare and contrast the firms, educate students on the different roles offered on Wall Street and investment banking, and provide a forum in which they can find mentorship to ease the burden of a stressful recruiting process.

Delta Sigma Pi alumni members from Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Evercore Partners and Bank of America Merrill Lynch attended the event to speak with students. Topics covered during their talks included: How to Ace the Interview, Resume 101 Tips, Boutiques and Bulge Bracket Firms and Debunking Finance Myths.

According to Wu, "This event benefited the brothers because it gave them a chance to participate in the conference and network with recently graduated alumni. The conference bridged the younger brothers with the recently graduated brothers, thus facilitating a line of communication and mentorship. In addition, since there were so many students from Cornell that participated, it was a great way to both educate the community while marketing Delta Sigma Pi before our recruitment in the fall. In fact, many of our current brothers first heard about Delta Sigma Pi through this conference."
