2020 COY Vasquez Recognized as 2023 Alum of the Year

Jul 12, 2023 – Midland College honored 2020 COY Cody Vasquez, Angelo State (TX), with the 2023 Alum of the Year Award.

Cody Vasquez's entire high school experience was at Midland College in Texas, and he went back to campus this past spring to accept the award.

He graduated from Early College High School at Midland College in 2016, a program where students earn a high school diploma and an associate degree in general studies. His time at Midland helped develop his future collegiate and professional career.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by my alma mater. As unexpected as it was, I was glad to go to my hometown and return to the campus that provided me with great support and an even better education,” he said. “These programs can set students up for success and help them achieve their goals faster… I am thankful for my time at Early College and Midland College.”

Vasquez stays connected to Midland through the Midland College Alumni Association and his current job as a senior admissions officer with Angelo State University. He serves as a point of contact for the area and helps Midland students considering transferring to Angelo State. Cody recently participated in ASU @ MC Day, a twice-a-year program to speak to students about their future education options.

Cody was 2020 National Collegian of the Year for his involvement and passion with Delta Sigma Pi. While a collegiate member, he held the following positions: chapter webmaster, vice president-pledge education, senior vice president and president of Eta Theta Chapter. He also is a Deltasig For Life Donor, served on the Ritual Team at Grand Chapter Congress in Atlanta and was Southwestern Regional Collegian of the Year in 2019.

Cody owns the Vasquez Development Group, which helps prepare high school and college students for their professional needs. In 2022, Cody was a San Angelo Chamber of Commerce 20 Under 40 Honoree, which awards young professionals who show excellence in their community and profession. He was also honored with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Community Impact award in 2021 for his work with the Vasquez Development Group.

When asked about his favorite memory at Midland, Cody spoke about meeting his wife, Lizette Vasquez, at the college. The couple resides in San Angelo with their 2-year-old son, Santiago.
