Elliott Ferguson Receives Silver Helmet

Jan 21, 2020 – Elliott Ferguson was recognized for 25 years of service at Deltasig's second Presidents' Academy.

Initiated into Kappa Chi at Savannah State (GA) in 1987, Elliott went on to earn a degree in marketing and business administration. Remaining in Savannah, he became the director of sales for the Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau and just a few years later, the vice president of sales for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau where he remained for more than 10 years. Now, Brother Ferguson works as the president and CEO of Destination DC. He was recently recognized as the 2018 Career Achievement Award recipient for his exceptional career in travel and tourism management. 

In 2009, the year Grand Chapter Congress was held in DC, Brother Ferguson officially welcomed attendees to his city and presented the Fraternity with a silver bowl on behalf of President Obama. 

At Delta Sigma Pi's second Presidents' Academy, Ferguson presented about Inspirational Leadership, with the following lessons shared: 
  • Find someone in your life who can guide you professionally and someone who can guide you personally. 
  • Always put others first. 
  • Never take yourself too seriously.
  • Failure is the best teacher.
  • There are three phases to everything: you learn, you unlearn and then you relearn.
