South Central Serves by Raising Funds for Hurricane Relief

Nov 04, 2021 – Delta Sigma Pi South Central Province was busy raising money for a great cause this fall!

The South Central Province through the Space City Alumni Chapter organized a hurricane and disaster relief fund for the Gulf South Region and the communities they serve. With coordinated efforts from Maci Hebert, Louisiana State, Gulf South RVP Laura Bensabat and Gulf Western RVP Gilbert Landras, they succeeded in raising money to purchase water, food, cleaning supplies, and other essentials for post hurricane recovery.

Brothers were able to send 500 meals to first responders in New Orleans with additional space on a cargo van organized by Steve Sharma, Cal State-Sacramento. Brother Sharma, the owner of El Big Bad (a local Mexican Restaurant) collaborated with Houston Chuck Wagon Wagoneers, Frenchy’s Chicken and El Cucuy New Orleans to send over 500 meals to first responders in New Orleans.

By the end of September, the South Central Province raised around $4,000 through marketing efforts, social media material coordination, determination and overall hard work! On top of monetary donations, the Province received a kind donation of two pallets of water from Sysco via Compass Group, effectively reaching their initial goal.

With large parts of Southeast Louisiana being without power or running water through the end of September, the South Central Province decided to continue pushing for donations towards the end of the month. Through these efforts during this time, the Province has already sent the donated profits to Restaurant Depot, Costco, HEB, Kroger, Amazon, PayPal, and more!
