Kicking off the Virtual National Volunteer Leadership Retreat

Jul 17, 2020 – The three-part, reimagined Virtual National Volunteer Leadership Retreat kicked off July 11 with over 100 leaders in attendance.

This first-ever virtual retreat was led by Adam Carrol, Phoenix-Thunderbird, and Tim Augustine, Kent State (OH), and was custom-designed to meet the needs of leaders at these difficult moments in time.

The Retreat began with an inspiring introduction from GP Tricia Smith who discussed expectations of our Fraternity’s leadership during these trying times. Her uplifting and supportive words allowed leaders to leave with a sense of renewed confidence that they are doing everything they can to support our chapters and members during difficult circumstances.

The Retreat curriculum touched on relevant and crucial topics including:

  • Expanding the ability to pivot and set expectations
  • Discovering the importance of emotional intelligence
  • Creating structure and accountability
  • Necessary skills for preparing for the fall term
  • Critical needs of specific chapters
  • Exploring the power of “mind mapping”
  • Discussing leaders’ “why”
  • Creating strategic plans
  • Tactical recruitment planning
  • Discussing CDC Guidelines on returning to chapter operations

Many of the topics above were discussed in small group settings, allowing attendees to bounce ideas off one another and provide valuable feedback.

Register for the rest of the series  scheduled for August 15 from 1-4 p.m. Eastern and September 12 also from 1-4 p.m. Eastern. Although it is not required to be in attendance for all three parts, discussions and agenda topics are designed to provide additional value, so we encourage you to if you are able!  And if you register for the remaining session, we’ll send you the recording of this first session for reference too.
