Fraternity Board Meeting Minutes in Seconds

Feb 16, 2021 – The National Fraternity Board of Directors met virtually in January. Read the Minutes in Seconds for a quick summary of the meeting.

Minutes in Seconds for the January 30 virtual Board Meeting:

  • Announced 2021 National Collegian of the Year to be Brennen Feder, Arizona
  • Selected Joelle Berlat, Houston, as the recipient of the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Cancelled the 2021 GCC in-person event and associated hotel contract; approved holding the 2021 GCC virtually (dates TBD); and approved an additional special (in-person) meeting of the Grand Chapter for July 13-17, 2022 at the Hilton Cleveland (pending final contracting).  
  • Cancelled the current January 2022 contract for Presidents' Academy in St. Louis, without penalty, to allow flexibility for holding the event. 
  • National Organizational Development Chair Lisa Brown reviewed status of current Strategic Priorities (2016-2021) and a draft of a new Strategic Priorities framework for 2021-2026, with the Board providing feedback. 
  • Individual Discipline Task Group Chair James Kuhn reviewed a white paper regarding changes to the Individual Discipline Policy, with the Board providing feedback. The task group was previously referred recommendations submitted by Bowling Greek State (OH).
  • ELC Jasmin Flores provided overview of DEI initiatives being worked on with the Professional Fraternity Association. GP Tricia Smith also reviewed development of a DEI Task Force to lead initiatives provided by Board. More details will be provided once finalized.
  • Bryan Boynton with Stephenson & Warner reviewed the 2019-2020 financial audit, which was approved.
  • Moved the national officer campaigning start date from January 1 to January 15 to allow more time for volunteers and staff to prepare the Candidates Beacon during holidays and staff break.
  • Added a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion event to Silver Tier of the Alumni Chapter Recognition Program, to go into effect for 2021-2022.
  • Referred a recommendation to staff to add a check box and LinkedIn profile link to the professional info section of Member Profiles. The new Volunteer Interest Form helps achieve some of the goals of the recommendation. In addition, LinkedIn integration on the website can be achieved within previously approved technology budget.
  • Extended suspension for Mu Tau at George Mason (VA) by 90 days and approved an offer of re-organization to the chapter for 12 months. 
  • Deferred a number of reports and recommendations to the March 6 Board of Directors meeting due to time constraints.
