Regional Make A Difference Day Participation

Nov 06, 2015 – SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.—On Make A Difference Day, 188 brothers, pledges, and guests from 13 chapters and one colony of Delta Sigma Pi volunteered at Santa Claus, Inc.
Since 1952, Santa Claus, Inc. has provided care packages with day-to-day essentials, school supplies and more for underprivileged children. Through its holiday distribution and the year-round program, A Community Cares, Santa Claus, Inc. provides approximately 55,000 care packages.
Delta Sigma Pi chapters have worked with Santa Claus, Inc. since 2003 and represented the majority of the participants at the 2015 MDDay event. Chapters from the Pacific Coast and South Pacific Regions in southern California sewed pillows; sorted toys, clothing, and books; proofread information cards; and organized inventory. In addition to giving their time, Deltasigs donated $500 to purchase fleece, which they turned into more than 100 blankets.
MDDay is one of Delta Sigma Pi’s national service initiatives, and all chapters are encouraged to participate in any service event on the 4th Saturday in October. MDDay is the nation’s largest day of community service and it continues to build on its 20-year legacy. In 2012, Delta Sigma Pi received national recognition from MDDay for the overwhelming numbers of chapters across the nation and at Santa Claus, Inc. that volunteered. The Professional Fraternity Association has also awarded recognition for this annual event.
Thank you to the following chapters and La Verne Colony for their dedication to Santa Claus, Inc., and MDDay. Collegiate chapters: California-Irvine, California-Riverside, California-San Diego, Cal State-Fullerton, Chapman, Concordia, Loyola Marymount, Redlands, San Diego, and San Diego State. Alumni chapters: Inland Empire, Orange County, and Los Angeles.
